Many owners may have a small dog that coughs a lot, perhaps sounding even like a seal barking out in the harbor. Most breeds are Pomeranian, Chihuahua, or Yorkie varieties. This cough gets worse when the dog gets excited and can almost debilitate the pet to the point of passing out.

This is a serious condition known as tracheal collapse. Many procedures have been developed over the years in an attempt to correct the problem, but have not worked well. Recently, stenting of the trachea has finally been perfected to the point that it is possible to give these pets a good quality of life.

Tracheal stenting is a fairly easy procedure. It requires two appointments, the first is to take radiographs to make measurements for the implant, the second is to insert the implant. The insertion procedure takes only a few minutes, and there is no cutting done.

*We are now offering medical management of tracheal collapse with the use of Stanazolol.*
